This scene from the masterpiece of a game that is Uncharted 4 was one that I constantly looked to for inspiration as I worked on creating actable choices because the work that Nolan North and Richard McGonagle put into this is undeniable. So, what better way to pay tribute than with my version of it, taking on the mantles and voices of two of my favorite characters in modern media. This project was a true full-circle moment because if you scroll down to the start of this page, I began this exploration of my voice and acting with a video voicing Nathan Drake and it amazes me to see how far we’ve come.
As I started working on this piece, I knew the immediate challenge would be Sully’s iconic gruff voice and tonality. But what ended up happening was that since it had been a while since I worked on Nate’s voice, there were so many new things I wanted to change and employ into my performance. I found new moments of heightened stakes that went beyond mimicking the actors and rather led me to find moments of my own to reflect my objectives in the scene. There was such an overwhelming sense of achievement to hear the final piece and think about the difference not just in my voice but my entire approach to my warm-up and performance.
I am so humbled and excited to present you all with my take on Sully trying to talk some sense into Nate from Uncharted 4.
