This is not only the best part of the series so far, but the best plot twist in the series, right behind Neyla being the villain. It shows that Sanzaru paid attention to the minor plot details and thoroughly examined the cutscenes in Sly 3. Penelope was always going to defect, there was no reason she wouldn't. Not only did she show a major tendency to defy and decieve, but she also overheard all of Dr. M's rambles criticising the Cooper Gang. The character trait was always there, it was just never expanded upon. Sanzaru did that perfectly. People who say "well she had no reason to do that" only took Sly 3's cutscenes for face value. If you look at what's implied in them, you'd Sanzaru made the best decision here. The forced humor still wasn't a good addition though, that much we can all agree on.

But as we all know, the internet can't focus on something that can't be completely described in one short sentence, so "sly 4 bad penelope villain bad" is the popular conclusion and anyone who attempts to say otherwise will probably be attacked in some way. Every fandom is like that, not just Sly Cooper, they all have that one thing that they insist must be a downside and won't ever listen to reason, no exceptions. It's really sad when they look over key pieces of evidence and miss the point completely.

Sony wants to make a fifth game, but the tendency to attack key points of the story that they don't fully understand, calling it "absolutely terrible" is one of the main reasons why they won't. Wisen up, guys and girls, it's OUR fault! Mostly our fault anyways, there's definitely other reasons.
