Developed by Nitroplus and directed by Gen Urobuchi, 'Saya no Uta' tells a story of madness, isolation, and the extremes of affection, experienced by Sakisaka Fuminori. After surviving an accident that was supposed to leave him with permanent disabilities, he woke up to find the world around him filled with disgusting, pulsating flesh, and everyone he saw had a monstrous appearance. But in that nightmarish hell, he met Saya, a normal-looking girl who offered him salvation and love. However, behind those smiles and affection, Saya harbored a dark secret.
The game was quite controversial upon its release due to its graphic depictions, including gore, sexuality, and psychological horror. However, its unique storyline, which delves deeply into psychological horror and Lovecraftian themes, was a combination that was really uncommon back then for a visual novel, allowing it to garner a dedicated fanbase who were looking for something beyond the mainstream at that time.
