Developed by Spacelight Studio and initially released as a free game in 2016, Kio’s Adventure gained a reputation for being an overly violent and disturbing game, primarily due to its brutal and explicit portrayal of the protagonist’s deaths on the game-over screens. The game remained relatively obscure, appealing only to a niche fanbase, until its release on Steam in 2017. There, it caught players by surprise with its unexpected shift from a seemingly cute game to a dark, violent, and disturbing game.
The game does not shy away from showcasing its brutal scenes, which is why some people regard the game as controversial and in 2022, Steam completely removed the game from its platform due to its brutal and gory content, making it impossible for anyone to purchase the game ever again.
