Over the last four years, Insomniac Games has gifted us with two nearly flawless Spider-Man games, and if the previews of Marvel's Spider-Man 2 are anything to go by, we're about to enjoy a third. However, as fantastic as the Spider-Man gaming experience has been, it has been tainted by one significant issue: Toxic Spider-Man Fans.
While most Spider-Man fans are good people who genuinely adore the character and the games, there's a small group that seems determined to disrupt the experience for everyone else. Recently, these individuals crossed a line.
From absurd controversies over water graphics in the Spider-Man 2 ps5 gameplay reveal to more serious issues like personal harassment, this subset of fans has been a constant thorn in the community's side. One significant instance was when Insomniac made the decision to change the face model for Peter Parker from John Bubniak to Ben Jordan back in 2020. While most fans moved past the surprise, this subset kicked up a storm.
It's 2023, and these individuals are still causing disruptions. They have even resorted to directly harassing Ben Jordan on his social media accounts. This behavior is utterly unacceptable in the gaming community. It's perfectly fine to voice concerns or critique aspects of the game, but personal harassment crosses a line.
We need to foster positive relationships between players and developers and gatekeep against such toxic behavior. With incidents like these becoming more frequent, it's turning into an embarrassment to be associated with the gaming community.
