Underworld: Evolution is a 2006 American action horror film directed by Len Wiseman. It is a sequel to the 2003 film Underworld and is the second installment in the Underworld franchise. The plot follows Selene and Michael, again played by Kate Beckinsale and Scott Speedman, respectively, as they fight to protect the Corvinus bloodline from its hidden past.
In the year 1202, vampire elders Markus, Viktor, and Amelia capture William Corvinus, the first powerful werewolf, imprisoning him indefinitely. In the present, Markus seeks the pendant halves owned by Michael and Selene, key to William's prison. The historian Andreas Tanis reveals that Markus was the first vampire, William the first werewolf, and a third brother remained human, birthing Michael's lineage. Viktor kills Selene's family, encoding the prison's location in her blood. Markus kills Tanis, learns the location, and plans to unleash hybrid vampires and Lycans. Selene and Michael strengthen with Alexander's blood, killing William and Markus. Selene discovers her newfound immunity to sunlight.
