Another old-school Genesis shooter that I spent countless afternoons playing, back when my age was single-digits. I spent a LOT more time on this than Bio Hazard Battle, I can practically beat normal mode in my sleep.

This game is one of my all-time favorites. Everything about this game is extremely polished and well-implemented, and the music fucking ROCKS. If you're at all into retro-gaming you should definitely check this one out, as well as the other Thunder Force games (Thunder Force IV/Lightening Force in particular).

Anyway, aside from enemies shooting more frequently and appearing in a few new places, there are a few other differences between Mania and the other difficulties that aren't immediately apparent by watching these videos. First of all, some hidden power-ups are completely removed, most woefully the laser upgrade in the beginning of Hydra. Second, and even more important, is that when you die, instead of only losing the weapon you were currently using, you lose EVERYTHING. For that reason, dying even once later on can be nearly impossible to recover from, but fortunately I don't lose a single life in this run ;)
