Tinker Tailor Stalker Spy: #884 ( Stalker ) Loner Kruglov The Phantom Menace
I'm not a Loner. My name is not Kruglov. My task is to infiltrate any Factions that I choose, in order to investigate and seize any of the new prototype weapons and ammunition, that have illegally entered the Zone. I have left the Mercenary Faction to join the Loner Faction. I am the Stalker.
Encrypted Diary: When I went topside, I found it very foggy, and visibility was limited to 100 meters or so. I wasn't expecting much action in these conditions, so when I suddenly saw a flash of light on the plateau to the north, I immediately knew it could only be one thing, that could produce that much power. A mutant, and there were only two types that could wield such force. There was either a Burer or a Karlik on that plateau, and it was either attacking or defending itself.
I immediately left the Skadovsk and made my way through the reeds and marshes, sprinting to get to the base. When I reached the top, I found no evidence of any fight. That is when the Psi Storm hit and I only had enough time to reach a nearby cave, where I had made a hidden stash. Right after the Psi Storm ended, I was back up on the plateau looking for evidence. There were no dead men, there was no dead mutants and all I found was a lone Tushkano. If there had been a Burer or Karlik here, they were long gone.
Since I felt like I would have seen any mutant coming down from the south end, it reasoned that the north-west corner would be the most likely path for any escaping mutant. I descended the upper section, heading west towards the northern lake. I kept close to the walled bluff, that curved and went northwards, taking me to the far northern shore where I detected some more Tushkano and some Pseudodogs. It was then that I detected a mutant far to the south, on an inlet sticking out into the lake.
On that inlet I saw a small figure with a distinctive shape. It was a Karlik. This was the source of the flash of light I first saw. It wasn't until I was right upon the Karlik did I discover it wasn't an ordinary Karlik but a Phantom Karlik. It was capable of all the powerful energy blasts like an ordinary Karlik but also creating phantoms of itself to attack any helpless victim. Even if you killed the Karlik, the phantoms had a life of their own. I knew that if I didn't have my upgraded Exoskeleton and helmet with maxed out psi protection, I wouldn't be able to survive such a powerful mutant's attack.
