2In January of 2006, 49-year-old Allen came to the sting house hoping to meet a 13-year-old girl named Sami, after having a sexually charged online chat with a Perverted-Justice decoy. In the chat, Allen had mentioned he wanted the decoy to give him a massage, find a place to make love, and to have her urinate on him.
Among his many excuses in the interview with Chris Hansen, he defended himself by saying he was "just curious", and that the young girls he usually chatted with often turned out to be either guys or "elderly" women his own age. During his interview with Hansen, he maintains a wonky faux-calm and friendly demeanor whilst trying to cover up his obviously frightened and hyperaware state, often stumbling over his words and badly-made excuses. After finding out he was a part of a Dateline investigation, Dan threatens to shove the camera down the cameraman’s throat and then tries to talk to Hansen in private, presumably to threaten him as well. He then tells Hansen that he’s “got it all wrong” and leaves the house where he is then arrested.
He pled guilty to an attempted lewd act with a child under 14, had to register as a sex offender, and served 36 months in prison.
Death
Shortly after being released from prison, Allen died on January 9, 2009 while on parole, from undisclosed causes.
