Whew. What a ride.

Gameplay: 6.5/10
I've said this I don't know how many times: this game plays like a clunkier Ys8. That doesn't mean it's bad, it's just not amazing. It also get repetitive once you know the patterns of enemies and use the most efficient method to kill things with each character. Sora is still the most fun to play. Fite me.

Sound: 7.5/10
The soundtrack is good, but it feels like it doesn't have an identity of its own. Half the soundtrack sounds like it's right out of Ys8, and the other half sounds like it cam out of Trails of Cold Steel. I assume the JP voice acting is good. I'm bad at judging foreign language voice acting unless it sounds especially bad.

Story: 5.5/10
Nothing special. They should have loosely hinted to the plot twist a bit more earlier in the story so it would feel less abrupt, because it kinda happens out of nowhere. Characters were enjoyable and character development ranged from a little to non-existent (Shio) compared to the Trails protagonists. I feel like they should stick with their trails-style story formula when they plan on making more than 1 game for the story.

Visuals: 8/10
It's dead center between Cold Steel 2 and 3's graphics (which makes sense since this was made between them). Some common monsters are reused from Cold Steel which is a bit of a minus, but boss designs are great as usual.

Endgame: 6/10
There is some stuff you can only do on a second playthrough, but once that is over, you're done. At least they made Infinity Mode to make it interesting. Also, gotta love missing a SINGLE QUEST then having to redo every single quest over with a guide to get the achievement, RIGHT?

Overall: 6.5/10
This is the score it deserves. It has the story structure of a first-in-series Trails game with the action gameplay of Ys, but it does both of those things a bit worse than their inspiration. If you enjoy Persona's daily school life setting, then the story is a good match for you. In my opinion, the game overall is good, but it never excels in any single category. A jack of all trades, master of none.


So now that that is over, the next game is Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn, because I need a slow paced game after the chaos of that Infinity-Calamity run.
