One of the curious things about the intellivision Amico for me, someone who has played video games since 1981, was would this system have games for someone like me. As such, this was a topic that I generally wanted to approach with Tommy.

In my household, now, I am the only one who plays video games. My 18-year-old is getting ready to go off to college, my two year old doesn't know how to do anything but drool on a controller, and my wife, well, she loves Animal Crossing. As such, couch co-op is not a thing in my household. This is just one of my concerns that I had with the Amico.

Tommy was very specific with his answer to this question. Instead of looking to try to pull people away from Sony, Nintendo, and Microsoft, he's trying to appeal to people who play mobile games on phones and tablets. And by that I'm not talking about flash games, I'm talking about easy to play, play & forget, low intensity sorts of games. I can definitely understand the appeal to that as people are more pressed for time now than ever. As such, Tommy is not looking to cut out his own slice of the pie, he's actually looking to make the pie bigger and bring more people into gaming than ever.

One example that Tommy's cited, repeatedly, was the success of the Nintendo Wii. Everybody owned a Wii between 2006 and 2012. People who had not played games ever knew about the Wii. They may not have even known what the name of the system was, it was just that thing where you could play bowling on it. In 2006, however, people did not have the high adoption rate for things like smartphones, tablets weren't a thing yet, so where people are now casually gaming on their mobile devices that wasn't an option 14 or 15 years ago. I think the market and the landscape has changed, so going after that next Wii customer again may not be a successful now as it was then.

I will openly and freely admit that I may not be within Tommy's Target demographic. My concerns that the Amico may not be for me are still valid concerns. However, I am not going to wish ill on anyone that is excited for this system and these games. It would honestly be no different than me dumping on Xbox players excited when the Xbox Series S and Series X were announced. Are those systems for me? Nope! do they need to be destroyed because they don't appeal to me? Nope.

I'm still on the fence as to whether or not this system is for me. There are things that are appealing, and things that as my youngest gets older I will definitely be looking at. Tommy definitely has his statistics and numbers down pat, a sign of a good salesman. Whether or not I fall in those numbers are still to be determined.
