74After the excellent 2017's Assassin's Creed Origins it was hard to imagine anything topping it so soon. But here we are, basking in the glow of Assassin's Creed Odyssey and everything we thought we knew about the best Assassin's Creed games, has changed again.
While Origins was the series' first real redesign after years of varied template tweaks and changes, it's Odyssey that's really cemented the game's new direction as a huge, open world action RPG.
As the series effectively enters a second age, what better way to assess its progress by looking back at all the games and ranking them to see how we got here. There have been 10 main games, multiple spin offs, and a rich vein of comic adaptations and plenty more since the series first appeared in 2007. And, as far as the games go, we're here to lay down the law on what the best ones are.
And it's probably not all what you're expecting. The series hit a strong run early on and many of the older games have held up well - Black Flag is basically the template for the modern sea faring AC games, and Assassin's Creed 2 was so good they made three of them, all of which you can enjoy in the remastered Ezio Collection.
