68Board game mechanisms in games such as Monopoly, clue, uno, catan, carcassonne, codenames, ticket to ride, gloomhaven, castles of burgundy, grand austria hotel, everdell and wingspan have always impressed me. When I learnt how to play more complex euro games, I realised that some mechanisms can be a little gimmicky. That is when I discovered the wheel. The wheel mechanism has been used in a limited number of board games to help make the decisions more tougher and to raise the tension levels in the game. I realised that there are some really innovating ways to use a wheel mechanism to make a game feel more challenging. Now I come to think of it, I was always a fan of the tv show Wheel of Fortune!
