0The action RPG "Torchlight" was created by an experienced team of developers - including people who have worked on Mythos, Fate and Diablo. As one might expect, the game includes all the loot whoring and customization of a classic roguelike, while also benefitting greatly from an endearingly colorful art & character design.
The player can choose between three different classes and also gets a support character (a cat, a dog or an imaginary sort ) which is capable of shapeshifting into various useful forms depending on how it is fed (and conveniently enough, it can even carry items back to the town and sell them in order to free up the playable character's inventory space). As with Fate, the modding support is extensive and a level editor was made available as a free download shortly after the game's release.
One of Torchlight's more practical advantages over its recent competitors is the very low system requirements. In fact, the game should pretty much run on any PC with at least a lowly 64 MB graphics card, and there's even a "netbook mode" for use with really limited hardware.
