Totalbiscuit is Smoking Crack -- Far Cry Primal Plays Better Than He Says it Does
The title of this video is a joke. I love Totalbiscuit, but I'm getting better performance than he is, on cheaper (and arguably weaker) hardware than what he's using. I display that here and explain why I think it's happening.
Update: I rewatched his video, and I suggest you watch it too. It took several viewings to catch everything, as he shows many settings, more than one resolution, more than one computer, and even jumps back and forth between computers. But... I did notice one variable that I hadn't accounted for.
He runs his Titan X at stock speeds. I don't know what that works out to, in real world performance, when compared to my 980 Ti. He has more cuda cores, but I might just be a little bit quicker, when we're talking about operating core speed. He doesn't show his operating core speed, and I don't know what his Titan X naturally boosts up to. (Maxwell cards have a boost that usually performs better, in real world, than what is advertised on the box)
So I'm not sure whose graphics card is running faster, his or mine. If his is running faster, and he has more cores, then his card should be more powerful, full stop.
But if mine is running "enough" faster, at the core clock speed, then I could have a slight edge. I don't know.
I'd still like to see him redo the test and see if he matches my results, once he's followed the suggestions I make in the video.
With all that out of the way, I still get a noticeably better frame rate than he's getting, in real world gameplay, in the opening hub area. (but then again, he didn't spend much time there at all... It's possible that if he played in that area longer, he would have a closer frame rate to mine)
From what I can tell, he genuinely is getting lower performance than what I got. I don't think he's making it up or trying to make the game look bad. But I would like to see him try some different methodology, or even consider a mild overclock for his GPU.
And, finally, like I said in the video, not everyone has the hardware or the game library to double check a professional reviewer's results. A lot of people just have to take a YouTuber's word for it, for how a game performs. Since I had noticed I was getting better performance than what he was getting, I decided to add my experience with the game to the community conversation.

**Sidebar: I was using a Mini ITX GTX 960 and getting frame rates in the 30's and 40's (before the Game Ready driver), when playing at Ultra, on launch night. I had a hard time believing the Titan X was going to go below 60fps, when I heard him say it does. That really struck me as odd. That is what triggered me looking into this, my experience with the GTX 960, playing this game. Here is footage of that: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P9ywrZ1fSUM
Seeing how my 960 played the game, I was assuming he'd see better performance than what he got from this Titan X. I think if he makes the changes I talked about, in the video, his frame rate might go up.
