This is really still one of my favorites in the Touhou Project, mainly for the characters and the unique, westernish setting. There's just something about it that keeps me coming back to it. But this time on Hard.

The game doesn't go harder by much but it definitely is a jump from Normal with more elaborate or denser patterns. It all kicks off by an even worse degree starting with Stage 4 and Patchouli, and the difficulty is at its highest once you encounter Sakuya now that her spellcards are not so simple like her Normal variants with trickier knife patterns and more of them being used. However, cross Sakuya safely and you'd find Remilia not even as hard as her maid. Could it be that Sakuya is the strongest member of the Scarlet Dev- oops, I forgot about Flandre existing. Anyway, Remilia does have a step up and that's Scarlet Meister. She uses a machine gun in this one instead of the shotgun-like attacks that she excels at, and I didn't last long enough to see Scarlet Meister in one of my previous runs to be able to react to it easily. It was a damning surprise, being shot at like this.

Nonetheless, the game was beaten on Hard. A while earlier, I wouldn't have been able to last in Stage 4, and Meiling would have done a number on what few lives and bombs, and what little confidence I had. However, I can't say I'll be taking on Lunatic difficulties anytime. As someone who did the Last Words, Imperishable Night on Hard is something, but Imperishable Night on Lunatic is a totally different thing. I doubt the general difficulty of Lunatic is any different in EoSD here or Perfect Cherry Blossom.
