Touhou 07 - Extra Stage (ReimuB) - Perfect Clear!
TIPS IN DESCRIPTION
It's my second perfect Touhou Extra stage! And in continuing with my efforts to alienate my subscriber base, I figured I just had to post a video of it.
Compared to the month-long struggle of MoF, this took only a couple of weeks! I started on 8/31/19, got an NB followed by an embarassing NMNB1BB on 9/3/19, then practiced for two more weeks to finally get a true ExNNN on 9/16/19.
1:18 - Chen Nonspell: It's easier to dodge the red bullets if you're on her right. Therefore, start by luring her to the left twice as I do here.
1:35 - Blue Oni Red Oni: My spell history here is inaccurate due to resets (there should be a lot more failures). This one's not nice. Stay as close as you can to the bottom, so that nothing comes from beneath you.
2:46 - Yellow bullet orbs: Staying on the left here lets you kill four of them. Even though focused shot is more powerful at this distance, it's easier to kill them unfocused.
3:36 - First nonspell (pink and purple kunai): Might not look it at first, but this is tap dodging. Occasionally the darker kunai will get in the way; starting near the edge of the screen gives yourself more freedom to make larger taps.
3:58 - Wizard Fox Thoughts: Just tap dodging. Start near the center so it can end near the edge of the screen.
4:34 - Banquet of 12 General Gods: The lower-right corner is safer then the lower-left due to the asymmetric layout. Occasionally the top-right cyan spawner goes offscreen and shoots nothing, making it even easier.
5:09 - Third nonspell (cyan and purple kunai): Like the first two but it's a bit longer and will wall you in if you move too quickly.
5:28 - Fox-Tanuki Youkai Laser: Get up in her face. Make her alternate between left and right motion; though if you accidentally make her go the same way twice, you can often recover after moving far away to cause a more horizontal shot.
6:08 - Charming Siege from All Sides: The gauntlet begins. This spell gets more intense over time, so the quicker the better. Early on you should move with her for more damage (but don't let her move in the same direction twice; then you won't be able to follow). After a while she starts moving more frequently and you can focus on survival.
Near the end when things start getting bad, try to anticipate where the wall will be moving away from you, and don't try to dodge into places where a wall will be forming.
There is some RNG to this one; if Ran moves down, your room will get very tiny. It's still possible to survive.
6:33 - Fifth nonspell (cyan and green kunai): GET READY SON. This is the run killer. It's not aimed, just pure reflexes. Hover at approximately the height I do, giving you a slight bit of leeway to move down when you need to wait for openings. Focus on the "now" and only look up from your character once you're past the immediate threat.
6:55 - Princess Tenko -Illusion-: A boring and tedious break in the middle of the gauntlet. Just do what I do.
7:30 - Sixth nonspell (cyan kunai): Another tough one, and this is kind of a poor demonstration of how to do it. You should hover a bit higher up (maybe twice the height I do) to give yourself a buffer to avoid overlapping layers. Sometimes, you'll see a somewhat wider gap somewhere in the slower bullets, and when this happens there's often a similarly wide gap in the next wave (or two) of slow bullets after it.
7:45 - Ultimate Buddhist: Easy, just watch the video.
8:27 - Seventh nonspell (green kunai): Just stay alert, anticipate what's coming and make tiny dodges.
8:44 - Unilateral Contact: Star King showed me this strat. Make sure to lead her back to above the center of previous round of bullets so that there is sufficient room underneath her before the second round is fired.
9:35 - Shikigami "Chen": Is there anything to say here?
10:05 (good part: 11:08) - Kokkuri-san's Contact: These days this one almost never kills me. The bit at the end mostly just requires quick thinking (and maybe a tiny bit of luck). Even though multiple waves bombard you simultaneously at the end, I largely get by simply by dodging the waves one at a time.
11:26 - Descent of Izuna Gongen: Lure Ran to one side of the screen and find a safe spot underneath her; a point on the bottom of the screen that none of her bullets ever touch. Stay alert (she can move vertically and change the angles of things), and adjust your plan if a new wave of bullets steals your safespot. Notice that the blue and yellow mentos have small hitboxes (your hitbox can fit entirely inside the bullet).
I had spectacularly bad RNG here. At first I had a safe spot between rice grains, but it was stolen by the blue bullets. At 12:10 I could see another safe spot to the left of the boss, so I lured her to the opposite edge of the screen. Unfortunately, the yellow mentos stole that safe spot, too!
