If you ever want to turn Touhou into a pseudo-CAVE game, this is probably the closest you can get. Playing UFO without collecting UFO tokens removes most of your potential survival resources, so you have to make do with the life pieces the bosses drop and the bombs you start with on each life. Oh, and the bullet patterns throughout the game are quite hard, meaning resource management is absolutely crucial.

I began to think I had blown my chances when I decided to be cute and not bomb Magic Milky Way, only to die twice anyway. Thankfully I was saved by performing as well as I did literally everywhere else. I perfected both Kogasa and Minamitsu, captured Greatest Treasure, and made it almost all the way to Shou before dying even once. All of that will definitely help give you some breathing room near the end, though I still don't recommend doing what I did on Magic Milky Way. :V
