A replay of my first 1cc run in Touhou: Ten Desires on Normal. 1cc = no continues.


This game is SIGNIFICANTLY easier than Subterranean Animism, the other game I have uploaded a full replay of. In fact, SA is known as one of the hardest Touhou games, while TD is one of the easiest. Hard Mode on TD is a more comparable challenge, but I always try to do Normal first.

Like all Touhou games, this game still took me a long time to beat. And there was a 2.5 month break in which I didn't play it at all; I completely fell out of practice.

But watching the replay, it is embarrassing to say that I got stuck on *any* part. The game just looks soooo easy.

So what makes this easy game hard? Simple. THOSE GODDAMNED DIVINE SPIRITS. With the promise of extra lives and bombs, they invite you to leap into the heart of enemy fire like greedy lemmings with a death wish.

Of course, Stage 1 is the one where I die the most. Partly because I've got it memorized. Partly because I think I can show off. But mostly because I realize it is possible to enter the Spirit World twice during the level if you play dangerously, and I want to do this every time.

That said, I don't do it this time. I valued my life this time.

For some reason, I can't remember the name of anybody in this game except the characters from previous games, so...

Midboss Happy Dog Lady is basically a free Spirit Gauge refill, so always make sure to enter the Spirit World before the fight. But don't be fooled by her "Long-Range Echo" spell. It may look similar, but this time, she DOES move, and she DOES NOT care if you're in the way.

Unless you're Sanae, save your first Stage 3 Spirit world for after Midboss Kogasa. The ghosts right before her are not enough for a refill, and believe me, you'll wish you had one.

Marisa trivializes Zombie Girl's "Heal by Desire" spell with her narrow attack range that pounds on the boss and leaves the familiars alone.

Stage 4 is a test of patience. A lot of times, heading out to collect Divine Spirits will get you killed, but there are often safe moments _if you wait_.

Miss Boomerang Hair's fight involves trial and error. Sometimes, killing the zombie is good; Other times, it is bad. Either way, you still get to listen to Old Yuanxian, so =D.

...and no, I don't know why I bombed on her last spell.

I really don't know when to enter the Spirit World in Stage 5. I just do it whenever.

Ghosty Legs scares me more with that zigzag spell than Miss Gray-Haired White Mage could ever hope to.

For some reason, my score is off by 23 million at the end of stage 6. Perhaps points are awarded after the end of the stage?

It has been months since I went through the game clearing everything in Spell Practice, so I forgot many of my strategies. Not that you can really tell, because The Final Boss With Rabbit Ears For Hair is still an easy fight compared to other Touhou games; I feel like I'm playing on Easy.

Her third non-spell is total bull (I just bomb it). And I didn't do "Royal Clan's Chaotic Dance" correctly; I forget how, but there's a way I used to do this spell that made it trivial to dodge. Her fourth non-spell ("Playtime's over!") is fun, but I still haven't mastered it, so I felt another bomb was necessary.

Likewise, I forgot my strategy and ran out of bombs against the last spell, "Falling Stars on Divine Spirit Mausoleum." Which was a shame, because this replay could have been DEATHLESS. =(
