Touhou 16 東方天空璋 ～ Hidden Star in Four Seasons (Demo) - Lunatic 1cc (No-Miss, No-Bomb, No-Release)
490New Touhou demo is out. I'm not really sure what to think of it. In places it feels more like a fangame than an actual official Touhou game. Especially in terms of scoring.
The game has four shottypes and between each shottype you can choose between four additional subshots. Which brings us to a total of 16 different shottypes.
Now with such a huge pool of shottypes, one of them is bound to be unbalanced or broken. It's pretty hard to balance 16 different shottyes in one game.
The best shottype combination for NMNBNR survival seems to be Reimu + Winter. With this shottype you get homing + forward-focus lasers, which is pretty much the best of both worlds.
Seasonal items charge up your subshot. These get released by speedkilling enemies, grazing bullets and cancelling bullets. Max power for the subshot is 6 options.
The game also has something called Releases. These are pretty much flash bombs that sacrifice your options for a short bomb.
These recharge really fast and you can basically spam them. I didn't use them for this run.
The game doesn't feel terribly difficult for survival so far. I didn't even use any of the flashbombs, which would make this even easier than it already is.
Not sure how hard scoring is, but from what I've seen you're pretty much bullet cancelling everything all the time.
The stage 1 boss has an absurd amount of safespots. You can sit above her for pretty much every single attack except for the last spell and maybe the last nonspell.
The boss is pretty much completely free but I do like the stage.
Stage 2 feels like it's half copy+paste from LoLK stage 2.
I don't know why the stage 2 boss has such uninspired nonspells. It's literally all the same and it's just basic tapsteaming.
Stage 3 stage part feels like the easiest stage in the game.
The boss seems to be suffering from Doremi syndrome. All of her nonspells are way harder than her actual spells.
Her second nonspell is probably the hardest pattern in the demo.
Now for some positive things because else people will just think I'm ranting on the game. The music is good and I like the visual feedback from grazing. Stage 1 is fun to flail and get items. There are some fun patterns to dodge. Presentation is very good.
