Touhou 17: WBaWC Demo - Reimu W, Easy, 57,827,070
6Finally got around to giving this a shot. This is my first time playing the trial of Wily Beast and Wicked Creature, and while I don't quite understand all of the intricacies of the main mechanic yet, I think I got a feel for the gist of it so far.
So, you can collect these wolf, otter, and eagle tokens, along with tokens of points, power, 1-ups, and bombs. After you collect 5 tokens, you enter a temporary powered up state, where if you got at least 3 tokens of the same animal type, your attack gets a major boost based on what animal type it is. Also, during this time, it appears the PIV (Point Item Value) increases as you shoot things.
I'm not sure yet if the powered up state would allow you to take a hit without dying (I never got hit at all here), or if you can manually discharge the boost with the bomb button (I never tried). But, I know that when the boost ends naturally, you get items based on the item tokens you collected (such as a point item cluster, a power item cluster, a life piece, and a bomb piece), and two new animal tokens spawn shortly afterwards.
Also, I think collecting 4 or 5 of the same animal token extends the duration of the boost. And, maybe collecting tokens that match your character's chosen "goast" (shot type) helps too, but I'm not sure on that yet. In addition, collecting an animal token during a boost slightly extends the duration, and collecting an item token during a boost spawns its contents immediately. I'll probably learn more about how all the details work in the future.
I don't know right now if I'll make any further videos of this game, but I figured I'd show my first play here, which was entirely deathless, but I did use some bombs. Most of them were intentional, but I kinda wished I'd held off on that panic bomb that I think I didn't need during the stage 3 boss.
