Mine Warfare: 20 Years of Red Faction Multiplayer is an upcoming production exploring the history of the community formed around Red Faction's PC online multiplayer scene. Our aim is to tell the story of the community - one that all of us have been a part of in some way for a significant chunk of our lives.
Who are we? The project is being produced by the team from FactionFiles.com, which first launched in 2009 and has since grown to be the go-to community for all things involving the Red Faction series. In 2018, we launched our Discord server which has since become the hub through which the majority of Red Faction community activity is organized.
The FactionFiles.com team:
- Goober has been playing and developing content for Red Faction since 2001. He co-founded FactionFiles in 2009 with the goal of preserving as many maps and mods for the series as possible. Recently, he has taken to publishing videos detailing the history of the Red Faction series--mobile titles, cancelled games, etc.
- nick became involved with Red Faction in late 2002 and was known in the competitive scene as a star player for a number of top clans. Another co-founder of FactionFiles, they have remained an administrator of the site and have spearheaded much of the event planning, outreach and moderation efforts for the FactionFiles Discord in recent years.
- Mitzi is a retro hardware enthusiast who played Red Faction II on the PlayStation 2 before becoming involved in the Red Faction (1) community around 2007. In 2009, she co-founded FactionFiles and in the subsequent years has kept busy maintaining the Pure Faction patch, managing the FactionFiles website, and pushing the limits of Red Factionโs scripting engine.
- Duane Jones is a researcher, video producer, and speedrunner who first played Red Faction on the PlayStation 2 in the early 2000s before making the shift to PC roughly a decade later. A more recent addition to the FactionFiles team, he joined in 2015 and has since become an integral member.
