Train Simulator 2019: Floridian Antics
*This video is a test, to see how a Train Simulator recording looks when it's sped up to 130% speed. The frame rates you see in this edited version are much, much better than what I actually got in the game.*
For some reason, I decided to revisit a route that I haven't looked at in a very long time. This is Miami to West Palm Beach, and the scenario is 'Tri-Rail Train P638 [GWD248]' by High Iron Simulation.
In this video, I drive a northbound Tri-Rail service from Pompano Beach to West Palm Beach. Along the way we stop at the following stations:
Deerfield Beach
Boca Raton
Delray Beach
Boynton Beach
Lake Worth
West Palm Beach
I ended up overshooting the platforms at a few stations, mainly due to me not judging the braking distance correctly, but also due to the short platforms. Deerfield Beach has longer platforms because it is served by Amtrak's Silver Star service from New York City to Miami; the consist of which is much longer than a typical Tri-Rail train.
Tri-Rail is the name for the commuter rail service that operates from Miami to Mangonia Park, a distance of 70.9 miles.
The motive power for this service is a Morrison-Knudsen F40PHL-2, which was created by shortening the body of a Burlington Northern F45 and placing it on the chassis of a former Conrail GP40. Five locomotives were modified in this manner, including 803, the engine that features in this video. As is typical for northbound Tri-Rail services, I am driving this train from the cab of a Bombardier Bi-Level cab-car, with the locomotive pushing the train on the other end.
In real-life Tri-Rail no longer operate F40PHL-2's. Their fleet now consists of Brookville BL36PH's and Hyundai-Rotem double-decker cars. The Hyundai-Rotem cab-cars are - quite possibly - the ugliest passenger car I have ever come across. The Metrolink ones look much worse than the Tri-Rail ones, however.
