An hours morning session spent at Staplehurst on the South Eastern Mainline where we see services purely from Southeastern.

Staplehurst station was opened in 1842 by the South Eastern Railway when the line was extended from Tonbridge to Headcorn. The station layout hadn't changed since it was first built, the platforms widened in 1889 and a footbridge was built over the station in 1961. The footbridge was built in preparation for the electrification of the line.

Like most stations along that section of line there were goods facilities that were in operation until 1971, there was also a coal yard at the station which was closed in 1965.

My next station will be Marden.
