"Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" (2009) directed by Michael Bay is admittedly pretty badass but it obviously can't be rated too highly. This is a film that is borderline unwatchable due to it's bloated content and length but if you know what to expect you probably won't be too disappointed / surprised.

Sam (Shia LaBeouf) wants to live a more regular life so he leaves Bumblebee and heads to college. Megatron is resurrected and he "kills" Optimus Prime. With the last Prime defeated, an ancient Decepticon known as the Fallen returns to Earth to exact his revenge and wipe out all life on the planet. Mikaela (Megan Fox) adopts a little Decepticon named Wheelie to be her pet.

Transformers 2 is bigger and more epic than it's predecessor. But I found there to be many more annoyances, nonsense, and mitigating elements in this compared to the last one so while they are of extremely similar quality and style to each other, this one will be going lower in the rankings. For that reason, I will be exclusively talking about the negatives in this review as the positives are extremely obvious to even the most casual of audience members. The biggest change I would have made to this film is to get rid of every single scene containing Lennox (Josh Duhamel), and seriously reduce the amount of time dedicated to the American military and their NEST program.

The film is stupid long and it feels like not a single scene was left to the scrapping board / editor in charge, and this became apparent to me early on when a background female extra is walking past Sam down a staircase and when the scene cuts to a different angle to continue Sam's sentence, she has nonsensically teleported backwards many steps and starts to walk in a slightly different direction past Sam. The film comparing it's plot to and referencing 9/11 bothered me because this is a stupid fictional nonsensical universe that should not be comparing it's stupid storyline to real world tragedies in my opinion. The lore continues to baffle me, but the one I will focus on this time is the fact that Transformers apparently age and can grow beards, and one actually relies on a cane to maintain his balance. The film is PG-13 but it has no problem throwing around derogatory slurs left and right, and I definitely did not appreciate the frame focused zoom in shot of John Turturro's bare ass.

Transformers 2 is all looks and no substance, but, so was the first film. Linkin Park is the only thing keeping me excited in this franchise now.
