Transport Fever: Tutorial - The Best City Bus Routes?
159A comparison of different types of urban bus routes to work out which is the most profitable way to transport passengers between residential (particularly those coming in on a train), commercial, and industrial areas.
** NOTE that I tested the route setups again after the July 2017 gameplay update which added road waypoints and terminal selection. I have created a new video including additional routing options but at the moment the video runs to almost 60 minutes!! In this video four types of route of tested and the profits compared:
1. Separate Clockwise and anti-clockwise circuits
2. Single bi-directional circuit
3. Separate commercial and industrial routes with extra residential stops
4. Strictly point-to-point residential to commercial and residential to industrial routes
Over five years which routes generate the best profits in town and, potentially, encourage growth across all connected routes?
At the end of the tests there are some clear observations on the game mechanics:
* Citizens only travel between home and work [b]or[/b] home and shopping
* There is no travel between residential zones?
* Citizens going from home to work/shop will not get off in a residential zone [i]unless[/i] that stop is the closest to their destination
* Routes will automatically change if the game alters the road layout in the vicinity of a stop
So, while it means you will have many more routes to manage, if you want maximum revenue you will need buses going point-to-point to enable direct travel between homes and work or shop.
Stops which cover a mix of commercial and industrial should also work but, like all routes, their success will depend on capacity and demand.
