The career path of a working musician can be a mercurial, unnavigable one, oftentimes leading you to completely unexpected ventures. For example, I have a friend that set out to be a composer/solo artist but he ended up mostly making a living as a transcriptionist/engraver. Another example is presented in this video; I was commissioned by a gentleman named Brett to do an interpretation of the piece "Runner/AD2025" from the OST for the Mega Drive title 'Alien Soldier'.

This ended up being a lot of fun, despite my unfamiliarity with the game. The MP3 rip that I procured sat pretty nicely at 131 BPM, so that's where I tracked it; just had to slice the audio here and there to realign, but it was minor.

This vid marks the debut of an all-new 'all-GoPro' camera setup, as well as lots of new pro audio gear. I've already tracked a full-length as well as a single (along with this interpretation), and can't wait to dig into some new solo material.

Notes:
-0:18 - 0:47 - first B section groove is broken down into a common 2&4, rather than on the 'ands'
-0:47 - 1:02, 2:20 - 2:34 - the 'ands' as an accenting device are reintroduced in the C sections, but with the snare backbeat every other time
-1:00, 2:33 - 16th triplet snare fill-in on top of regular 16th double kicks
-1:02 - 1:16 - ride bell complements the melody
-1:16 - 1:34, 2:49 - 3:06 - I treated the E sections as an excuse to do a bit of soloing, with the reprise more unhinged; the latter six bars are the same for both instances, and the open hats and china complement one of the melodic stabs
-1:50 - 2:20 - second B section maintains snare on the 'ands', except when I move to the ride
-2:34 - 2:49 - all of the orchestrations here are complementing various components of the song (ride bell: melody, kick: synth bass, tom-toms: kooky sound FX)
