Trevor's Rapid Game Design Talk
A brief insight in to my experiences with multiple digital games.
Just below is most of my script for people who prefer to read this.
I liked The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles for suggesting a theme that I value, about humans solving mysteries through communication and presenting evidence.
I liked Resident Evil 4 for providing a smooth flowing, structured and paced experience.
I liked The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles for including another theme I value of persistently pursuing the truth in situations that are easy to misunderstand.
I disliked Vampire Survivors for overwhelming me with too much visual information and overwhelming me with rapid decision fatigue.
I disliked Terraria for overwhelming me through minimal guidance for new players and disrupting my flow of play by continuously sending hostile monsters at me too often.
I liked Despot's Game for having automated combat with a simple high level play of progressing through small rooms while upgrading my team.
I liked Fallout New Vegas for including the experience of regular relaxing long stretches of walking to give me breaks from other parts of this game.
I disliked Sheltered 2 for providing minimal feed back with my progress as I build my shelter, causing me to feel frustrated and causing me to forget details and struggle to play with disrupted thoughts by pausing and unpausing this game too often.
I disliked Space Haven for over whelming me with a very complex user interface and not giving me enough guidance on how to approach this game's challenges in ways that I agree with.
I like Sun Haven for capturing most of my favourite experiences, including support for self pacing, including continuous growth, and including relaxing repetitive day routines with iteration and with no punishing urgency.
I liked BattleTech for providing a satisfying strategic experience, including interesting decisions for upgrading machines and building a mercenary team through impacting decisions that seemed meaningful.
I disliked Gladiabots for overwhelming me with continuous logic design and not giving me enough intentionally designed breaks.
I liked Gladiabots for being a good example of an entertainment media that can teach some practical coding skills in an accessible way.
I disliked Despot's Game for not having enough of a persistent long term experience that I can continuously build towards.
I disliked Underrail for giving me a poor first impressions and failing to guide me on how to prepare for this game's challenges in an accessible way.
I like Underrail for having deep and complex systems that I can interact with at a reasonable pace with specific game settings and specific game choices. I also like to think of solutions when I am not playing this game.
I liked Wargroove 2 for providing a highly structured fairly accessible board game and including a theme of leaders that fight with their people.
I disliked Wargroove 2 for creating an overwhelming decision fatigue micromanagement experience when my army is too large and too complex.
Thanks for watching.
