♫TSUGARU (Twin Cobra) SNES Arrangement - NintendoComplete
This is an arrangement of the song "Tsugaru," the BGM used for stages four and nine in Toaplan's 1987 arcade shoot 'em up Twin Cobra. I have arranged it for native playback on SNES hardware, and the audio was recorded directly from a launch-model SNES console.
If you like 16-bit shooters, Twin Cobra (sequel to Tiger Heli) was an awesome one, especially in its port to the Sega Genesis. And when I used to obsessively play it, I'd always get so pumped when this song would start up.
I've based this SNES arrangement off of the track from the Genesis game, going so far as to only use instruments that I sampled directly from the game's music. I wasn't trying to perfectly recreate the Genesis rendition on the SNES with this, but I wanted it to still sound like something that could be produced by the Genesis's YM2612 and DAC. I did change some things to make it sound fuller and brighter, but the base track is largely intact here.
Mimicking the sound of an FM synth on sample-based hardware sounded like a fun challenge, and it was! It was a bit difficult to pull off, but it was much less difficult than beating the Sega version of Twin Cobra! It did take a good amount of time, though, since I tracked the whole thing out by hand.
In the end, I was going for raw and powerful. What do you think? Did I hit the mark?
Hope you all like it! :)
And as was requested, here is the .SPC file that I recorded this from. It will play from pretty much any emulator, .SPC player, or hardware flash cart. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1xwushwh6Stjp4Bjgs_ok4uO_Z2M0P2HB/view?usp=sharing
