Turbo Racing 3 is, as the name would probably suggest, a game about racing. Despite the simple label of "racing game", Turbo Racing 3 manages to bring a whole lot more to the playing field than one would expect.

First off, the game looks great. Everything is in 3D, and none of that nonsense with all cars just being palette swaps of one another. You've got distinct cars racing across the track, each with their own specific graphical features and style.

What's more, you've got really great lighting in place which adds to the visual effect of the game, something often not really utilized in similar racing games. Though it would seem to be of little real consequence, the lighting adds a great deal to the game. Neon lights are reflected on your paint job, the explosions of rival cars light up the entire environment, and passing by large buildings will cast shadows darkening your view. They're all little things, but they really add up and build a much richer and more entertaining atmosphere than would be had without. Another interesting addition is the use of motion blur. While you won't see it every single time, it can be visible when using turbo boosters and hitting ludicrous speeds as you blast past the opposition.

The audio is just as detailed as the graphics, with there being sound effects for pretty much everything from the revving of your engine to the smashing of your car into the sidewalk (not that you'd want to do the latter one). Just hearing the roar of your engine is satisfying, but you'll also be able to hear opponent's engines if they're close enough, again not something you often see in these free racing games.

As with any other free online racer, the controls are fairly simple. You drive around, and you make sure you stay ahead of everyone. There's the added use of turbo boosters, but beyond that, most everything is fairly standard fare. That said, the gameplay still manages to work well despite having those standard controls. Each race has you pitted against a set of different cars in a bid for first, as can be expected. Each race has additional challenges though that make the race more interesting. These challenges could be anything from winning the race without a single collision or perhaps managing to beat the race under a certain time limit.

All in all, Turbo Racing 3 is a fun and action-filled game. It's a gem of a racer and it's challenging enough that you'll be at it for hours of fun.
