Turn-based Memory Roguelike | Pairs & Perils demo
1Hello everyone! We are here with more demos from the Steam Next Fest. This is Pairs & Perils, a memory roguelike, where you beat your enemies by matching cards of the same color. The gameplay loop, surprisingly, works quite similarly to Dice & Fold. You go into the room, the game selects a random enemy to throw at you, you beat him (or die) and get coins, then you go to the next one and repeat. After a few rooms, you will find a shop, where you can spend your coins for items (max of 6), that will help you during your run, and then you go back to action, until you reach the 29th or 30th floor to face a boss.
There will be different characters, different difficulties and, most likely, different bosses. The "bad" part of the game (for me) is that most items and enemy skills are "X% chance that this will happen", which should be consistent, but you still need to count on lady luck for that. Also, even when it makes sense that some of the enemy skill will go around hiding some cards, this makes the game quite annoying when they do it several times in a row, because you have nothing to do. I honestly think that a better skill would be moving some cards, which could still be annoying, but you have to use your mind more to deal with that.
I also feel like there should be another way of healing (like buying some HP in the shop), because the run depends on that.
Anyways, really interesting concept, but I think the developer will need a lot of feedback to see if the mechanics are well implemented (so, please, give this a try xD). Also, don't come to play this game tired thinking you are going to chill (because that's what I did... and it was a mistake xD).
Also, remember, this is not a deckbuilder. It has cards on it, but it is not a deckbuilder AT ALL.
