Here are the steps in plain text format:

1. Go to Boiler Room Doom and reach Dingodile.
2. Save and load after the cutscene (disable autosave after that)
3. Long jump to the room entrance (behind where you spawned)
4. Activate the checkpoint and die.
5. Go back to Dingodile (leaving Cortex behind) and beat him.
6. Activate the checkpoint and die.
NOTE: This is where the NTSC version crashes.
7. Use the tree and the crates to get on the main roof,
activate the save checkpoint and die. (remember to disable autosave)
8. Leave Cortex next to the door and get out of bounds.
9. Move a bit towards the wall so that the level behind the door disappears.
10. Jump over the hole above the door (if done correctly, the level should flicker)
11. Drop down at the part where the path turns into the corridor
and go towards the loaded part of the level.
12. Grab Cortex and go back through the corridor.
13. Use the door to get out of bounds and go towards the boss room.
14. Jump on top of the door (jump anywhere else and you'll get stuck forever)
NOTE: Dying now crashes the game.
15. Slide jump to the inner ledge of the boss platforms (the ledge is invisible so be careful)
16. Long jump AROUND the red zone: http://imgur.com/U6Y1Z
17. Go towards Nina as fast as possible (2 slide jumps should be enough)
18. Go towards the boss and beat it like normal.
19. Continue the game as normal.
NOTE: After hitting the next checkpoint dying no longer crashes the game.
