It was in 1946 that the Zidanku Silk Manuscripts ended up in the United States as a result of shady dealing. But arrival on US soil was far from the end of the story. After changing hands a number of times, they became part of the the collection of Dr. Arthur M. Sackler. So appreciative was Dr. Sackler of their value that he sought to have them returned to China but missed two opportunities to do so.
