We find out that the "accident" that caused the ARK to shut down 50 years prior was a military raid that killed everyone aboard including Maria, causing her grandfather, Professor Gerald, to lose his shit and program the colony to collide with Earth as an act of revenge. So now we have to get to the Cannon's Core to stop the ARK from crashing.
