uBlock Origin Will Stop Working on Chrome Due to Google’s Manifest V3 Updates
77In this video, I will explain why uBlock Origin, one of the most popular and powerful ad blockers for Chrome, will stop working on the browser due to Google’s Manifest V3 changes. Manifest V3 is a new set of rules and APIs that Google is imposing on Chrome extensions, which will limit their capabilities and performance. Google claims that this is for security and privacy reasons, but many critics argue that this is a way to protect Google’s advertising business and weaken the competition. uBlock Origin relies on some APIs that will be deprecated or restricted by Manifest V3, such as webRequest and blocking web requests. This means that uBlock Origin will not be able to block ads and trackers as effectively as before, and will lose some of its advanced features, such as cosmetic filtering, scriptlet injections, and dynamic filtering. uBlock Origin’s developer, Raymond Hill, has created an experimental version of the extension, called uBO Lite, that is compatible with Manifest V3, but it is much less powerful and functional than the original.
