How To use Ubuntu Hardware Enablement to Install a newer Linux kernel which will provide compatibility to Intel Kaby Lake and AMD Ryzen CPU’s, which would have post-dated Ubuntu 16.04.

$ sudo apt-get install --install-recommends linux-generic-hwe-16.04
(optional to add xserver-xorg-hwe-16.04)
Reboot and check your system works ok
$ sudo apt-get autoremove
$ sudo apt-get purge linux-generic linux-headers-generic linux-image-generic
