An issue discovered in Linux kernel supplied with Ubuntu 17.10, Antergos, and openSUSE affected certain Lenovo, Acer, Toshiba, and HP laptops supplies with Insyde UEFI BIOS.
The kernel driver for Intel SPI (Serial Peripheral Interface) causes the BIOS to prevent saving changes and remove the ability to boot via USB, Network, or CD/DVD. In other words you’re stuck with the Linux distro you just installed.
The issue has now been fixed as of kernel 4.14 rc1.
Older versions of Linux, including 16.04 LTS were unaffected.
