Host's action plan
Leave the co-op session. The client player should exit the game completely.
Load the save in single-player mode. The host should open the saved game as a solo player.
Sell excess inventory. Go to the market and sell off a significant amount of your stored weapons, heat sinks, and other gear. The game treats every individual item as a unique entry, and a large hoard can bog down the netcode.
Complete or abort a mission. Run at least one mission by yourself in single-player mode. It doesn't matter if you complete it or abort itโthe action forces the game to process and refresh the session data.
Save the game in a new slot. After returning to your ship, save the game into a fresh save slot.
Re-host the co-op session. Invite your partner back to the new save file. They should now be able to move freely on the ship.
Other potential solutions
If the main fix does not work, you can try these other steps:
Remove and re-add mods. If you are using mods, have both players disable all of them. Re-enable them one by one to see if one is causing the issue. Some versions of mods like "Yet Another Mechlab" are known to cause co-op instability.
Try another player as host. If you're playing with more than two people, you can try having a different player with a less cluttered save file host the session.
Travel to a new system. For some players, simply having the host travel to a different system has been enough to trigger a resave of the inventory and fix the issue.
