I've always been a fan of Super Monkey Ball on the Gamecube, especially SMB2. The getting 1380 mph with inch worms, 950 with organic form, and the special case of 2400 and even 4500 mph with bead screen makes the game especially more interesting and enjoyable. There's often plenty to do on it. One of the minigames is called Monkey Target. When this is used, the song I call Target Zone plays.
Target Zone is one of those rare songs with a super wide range of good-sounding speeds, a factor of 20, and it's also one of the very few songs with a huge coverage on the faster end, even "maxing out" at the 635% speed though it actually goes close to 800%. At the slower end, the high-pitch jingling instrument (not sure what it is) that has 3 staccato eighth notes followed by an 8th rest, where the third note seems to be a little louder. I love that rhythm, especially with how it goes with the drums. A little below true speed makes the strings become more pronounced. This is where the 68% true speed sweet spot comes in - it balances the audibility of the strings with that of the high-pitched instrument (that I don't know what it is). At true speed, the high-pitched instrument starts rapidly becoming inaudible and effectively disappears by around 200% speed. However, as the speed keeps increasing beyond true speed, the mid tone instrument that plays a lot of very long notes with a brief bit of short ones immediately before a long one really starts to stand out. By 262% speed, the other sweet spot, both the strings and this midtone instrument really stand out nicely. While the intro is not included, that's also a huge favorite of mine, like an icy sort of theme or feel. It stands out best even slower than 68% speed, more around 45-60%.
