https://www.patreon.com/ulillillia --- With the bulk of the sprites done, the backgrounds done, and templates for level layouts done, Baricanna is starting to come together where most of the work left for it involves the programming aspect. And game play all started with the most mundane and overly simplistic of all scenes - just a few simple rectangles and a debug panel. Simple constant acceleration type movement is the dominant aspect. With the most basic of things set up and going, I went at adding in the background. I had the collage showing all 12 backgrounds in one, but those are all fixed images. This time, at least the one for Horina Plains at the moment, the backgrounds are starting to come alive. I explain the layout of the background, give a sense of key level locations (towns and other regions, not objects like where the boss room or fiend key are). Once I get all 12 backgrounds implemented (there are additional ones needed, but they're often much smaller or small changes to the current one), I'll be posting that video to show them all next. Working the backgrounds is one of my favorite aspects.

That's the basic formula behind how the backgrounds work. The vertical is very similar but, like the retro games, the entire image moves. I also implemented a scrolling speed limit feature, to emulate the classics, though you can choose to disable it where the fastest you could probably get is around 106 px/fr, from falling from the highest point of Mount Celice to the lowest point.
