Ultima V: Warriors of Destiny, Episode 36: To Find a King
It's time to find Lord British! We join the Avatar and his companions at Shame's Egress in the Underworld, ready to set out in search of Dungeon Doom.
During the search for the Gate of the Lore of the World, british (the viewer, not the character!) fills me in on the things I missed during my adventure:
-by ignoring the game intro for so long and then being too scared to venture into the Underworld the first time I reached it, I wound up entirely missing an Underworld meeting with Captain John, the sole non-Lord British survivor of the doomed Underworld expedition! Captain John could've filled us in on the origin story of the Shadowlords!
-because I'm *too virtuous*, I was never willing to answer "Yes" to the Blacksmith in Minoc who asks if I agree that Lord Blackthorn's reign has been great (I won't even violate my virtues to experience all the dialogue options!). As a result, I miss an entire questline where the Avatar can gradually ingratiate himself to the Oppression (a counter-revolutionary force opposing the Resistance), ultimately *informing on a Great Council member* in exchange for a membership badge that lets him enter Lord Blackthorn's Castle without worrying about the guards.
The Oppression route sounds like an easier way to get Lord British's Crown, but I'm glad we kept our hands clean and pulled off our fancy magic carpet heist!
Then, there's nothing left to do but breach Dungeon Doom and seek our sovereign. At this session's end, we're deep into that fearsome dungeon, with no idea if we're anywhere close to finding good Lord British.
