Description:
4 minutes and 4 seconds faster than the previous record.
Episode 4 doesn't see a lot of activity, so that explains most of the time saved. At least another minute can be saved here, my E1 max was only about a minute off the recent keyboard only TAS while this one is 3 minutes off, so I wouldn't be surprised if there's 2 minutes to be saved. Too far away from sub 17 though so I'm happy with under 18 minutes. Cannot recall any of my times or what my best practice attempt was, so not sure what a good time on each level is, besides route could be significantly better.
20/22 secrets on E4M3 and 2/4 secrets on E4M7 are max.
E4M1: I got super bored of this level after a few attempts, it's not too difficult and I almost beat the IL in one of my attempts with this somewhat safe route, but having to wait so long until you find out if the barons will gather up or not is no fun, so about 15 seconds lost already.
E4M2: Fun map, lots of BFG to clear everything out quickly. Very far behind the IL record though, most of it explained by conserving cells, but all the weapon switching to rockets cost a lot.
E4M9: I think I spent more time routing this level than all the other levels combined, there's just so many options with where to go first and how to move through the level without leaving anything wandering around. You're also in this really interseting situation where you have lots of lower tier monsters while having no bullets, but you also have the plasma rifle and the BFG. Now ideally you wouldn't want to waste cells with the plasma when you can deal so much more damage with the BFG, but I think using plasma rifle is good here. There is one 50 bullet pack on this level, but I ended up skipping it with this route.
E4M3: Don't think the baron telefrag is worth it, should just be more careful with my rocket management. Awful BFG one those barons, expected it to do more damage on the second one. Whole runthrough was a disaster, don't think anything went well here, at least 20 seconds lost. No idea how I kept missing that last baron, I knew the spectre would be close, but I'd be fine with ending the run here.
E4M4: A very simple level, usually always get similar times and nothing interesting happens. Should use rockets at the start instead of the BFG since you're waiting for the lift anyways.
E4M5: Really needed to route/practice this level more, of the few attempts I had that got here I bet they all had mistakes through the entire level. Decided to go with a double BFG to deal with 1 cacodemon at the start because I don't want to chaingun him or wait for him to get close, completely missed the second BFG for some reason, no idea what I was doing there. Only happy it wasn't a complete disaster again.
E4M6: I made this level look difficult, but it helps a lot when I know my time isn't great up to this point and I can just do exactly what I think is fastest without really worrying if I die. I'd say my ammo management isn't optimal, but I did end up with 0 bullets, 0 rockets and 2 cells before getting those cells and rockets near the end, so maybe it was.
E4M7: I don't really have much of a plan for the last area, just rocket stuff whenever you notice it and hope everything ends up dead somehow. I forgot to fire a rocket towards the opposite end by the bridge switch, sometimes the shotgunner there doesn't wake up if the elevator is down. If that happens you'd have to jump down and go up that elevator which would cost way too much time. The start of this level wasn't good, but I think I got lucky with the ending honestly so I'm happy with it.
E4M8: So much ammo and health that you can do whatever you want, I lose several seconds to taking things way to slow to make sure everything is dead.
Overall the episode I spent the least amount of time on, but it has a lot of fun levels.
