Ok, originally I had made a passing mention of this glitch in my previous 'Glitch Package', but I had not realised how significant it was as a speed strategy.
I'll confess that I did this glitch on my first playthrough of this game, without even realising just how much I had skipped. So I decided it merited a video of it's own to show any future speedrunner how to do this skip.
Points of Interest:
1. I noticed that if you stayed at the back of the train, the train will in fact keep doing loops over & over of a certain area. It will do this until you move along the train & hit a certain trigger which will load the train to start doing loops of new areas...and so on (in other words - despite appearances - the train is NOT going forwards in a straight line, it keeps looping through areas until you move forwards along the train)...
2. ...so I wondered if I could get directly to the front of the train, by getting Drake to stay in the one place while the train went and did it's loop back to the point that Drake got off...
3. ...the only way I had noticed you could get Drake to sit in mid air was to do the the old wall breach method. But instead of breaching a wall, you use it to move Drake off the train. He will then float in mid air.
*****************************************************************************
How to do the skip:
(a) Do the wall breach method until Drake moves off the train.
(b) As soon as Drake 'floats' in mid air...AIM! And keep aiming until the Train does it's loop and comes back to you. Aiming makes Drake stay in the same position.
(c) When the train approaches Drake, keep aiming at it until you see the "anti-helicopter tank". When you see that, it means that you have hit the trigger that loads the final boss at the front of the train.
(d) From there you just need to restart, and the game will load Drake directly to the final Boss at the end of Level 14. (If you're lucky - like I was the first time I tried this - you won't even need to fight the boss...you go straight from level 13 to level 15).
(e) The train takes about 3min 30sec to do a complete loop. Even tho this seems like a lot of time, it in fact saves you about 20 minutes in a speedrun since you are skipping 2 whole levels.
(f) If you watch the video again, notice that the background at the boss fight is the 'Tropical Green' from the start of level 13 (as opposed to the 'Snow' you normally see outside while fighting this boss at the end of level 14.
