A fully playable normal mode is well-hidden inside this game. I guess the game was originally going to be a standard version of Same Game before it was converted into a 2-Player Versus point competition game, and removing the standard game wasn't worth the time or effort because hudson was rushing out the Broadcase Satellaview BS games. It may have been a late decision. The game is fully playable and is exactly the same as it is in other Same Game iterations, including the Undake 30 Same Game Mario version; minus the score system and certain jingles or a proper menu or game board selection system.
By default, the game doesn't update music from the title screen main theme and instead sets the value to sub-tune to $80 as is BGM off mode. This programming is proof that it was a different game mode early on, as opposed to sharing the same code to select music in the versus mode.
