I've actually altered my ideas about the game a bit as I was checking my recording. I'm actually starting to think there is something going on like OFF where the Flower and Player Character are avatars the Player has influence on like the Batter and his Player. This might be what the memories and stolen soul dialogue mean, the stolen soul being you the Player and the reason your character can save and Flower can't is since he lost his Player.
