Running patch 1.42.3, using major glitches.
Sub-45 is plausible, but requires both flawless execution and better luck.

----------------

This run makes excessive use of an out-of-bounds glitch called the Televator: using a teleportation skill while riding an elevator to shift the destination just enough to fall out of bounds. There are several areas where this glitch can be used, but this run boils it down to three routes that practically skip 90% of the game. One OOB route leads directly to the Medeox boss room, allowing entrance to the Tower area, while the other leads directly to the top of the Elven lands.

The route isn't that simple, however. Both Medeox and the Wizard Tower prove major bottlenecks, forcing me to level up to respectively lvl 5 and lvl 10 and rely on Fire magic. As a result, the first 9 minutes of the run follow a very ordinary route, completing the Fire quest as well as killing Dynidon to get access to the Sewers to purchase Fireball. Fireball makes the Medeox fight a push-over by very quickly eliminating the main threat of the poison spitting snakes.

After Medeox, the next roadblock is achieving level 10 and buying the Fire Spirit spell. The spider area of the tower is the best place to grind experience at this level and also has access to some useful and/or valuable items. This place can be extremely dangerous, however, especially in the first pass when it's impossible to see them dropping from the ceiling. All things considered, this part of the run is probably the hardest, and in this run, the best executed.

The reason I need Fire Spirit, is the existence of Purple Wizards. Most areas of the Wizard Tower are pretty simple, either skipped past with Phase Doors or blown up with Fireballs, but Purple Wizards have a near-permanent reflection shield, and stand far out of range of many spells. Only Sleep, Midas Transmutation, and Fire Spirit can reliably hit them, and I only have access to one of those in this run. To make matters worse, fire spirits have a rather dumb-as-bricks AI, potentially losing me a lot of time on those rooms if they don't cooperate. If these rooms look sloppy in this run, trust me, it can get far worse.

Sadly, I didn't get any Strange Scroll drops during the run, requiring me to farm for them toward the end, but I get one decently quickly. Then comes the final sequence break, and the game slowly realizing I've beaten it.
