October 5th, 1944: After the partial breach of the Alps through Lubljana in September, an Allied halt in offensive operations was neccessary to allow for an effective supply network to be set in place. By early October this network is up and running and British 8th Army can resume its advance. Meanwhile US 5th Army guards its southeastern flank facing the collapsing Independent State of Croatia.
