A technology preview showing the evolution of the original Unreal engine (UT99 era) from Epic Games. This video, originally presented only behind closed doors at ECTS 2000, was released to the public by Epic that September. It showcases high-polygon models and architecture, facial and motion capture animation, and large-scale detailed terrain. This isn't UE1 or UE2, but a prototype that fits somewhere in between.

The face of the model in the beginning consists of 3,700 polys. The model uses bone/skeletal modeling techniques, with over 40 bones in the head alone. It is roughly 5 times more detailed than a model from UT99 or Unreal.

The outdoor terrain presented here was in an experimental state at the time. Apparently it was offered to some engine licensees. Notably, the trees are built with 3D meshes and provide for one of the earliest examples of an open environment with such detail.

The two songs in the video are the official audio track. The OGG files shipped with Unreal II: The Awakening, but weren't used in the actual gameplay. Their filenames are tension2.ogg and skaarj.ogg.
