OK so full disclosure. I know what's going on. The notes I add in during the videos are more what my character would be thinking from her perspective, to make viewing more interesting. I try to construct them in a way that sparks thought from a viewer who hasn't played the game before.

The basic story of Dark Souls 3 is that you awaken in the Cemetery of Ash, having been resurrected from the ashes of those who had failed to link the fire in the past. Your job is to find the Lords of Cinder - those who had successfully linked the fire before - and force them back to their thrones so they can open the way for you to link the fire this time, to prevent another age of darkness.

Iudex Gundyr is the first boss you encounter, in the Cemetery of Ash. "Iudex" means "judge" in Greek or Latin iirc. Gundyr was originally a champion of ash just like you, and was supposed to do your job, but for some reason he failed to answer the call in time, the same call you awaken to answer, and he becomes trapped in the arena before Firelink Shrine, to serve as a judge to test future champions to see if they are worthy to perform the task he was meant to.

When you arrive at Firelink Shrine, the moment you use the bonfire to travel to the High Wall of Lothric, everything from that point on takes place in the past, everything outside of FIrelink Shrine and the Cemetery of Ash.

Eventually, you find your way to the Cemetery of Ash once again, only it's known as the Untended Graves. It's dark, the fire having faded. This is the time when Gundyr had failed to answer the call and meet his Fire Keeper. You are still but a lifeless corpse in your tomb, having not been resurrected yet. Gundyr lies in wait in the arena he had been bound to, now in his prime. He has yet to become the decrepit judge tainted by the Pus of Man.

This was a man who was already judged as worthy to perform the duty you are now carrying out. Champion Gundyr is the final test of your absolute worthiness to be a champion of ash. He is not as weak as he is the first time you fought him. But by now, neither should you be.

At least this is what I believe to be the case. I still don't fully know what the Corvians are doing praying at your tomb. Perhaps for your arrival to rekindle the fire and stop the age of darkness from coming to pass. They still attack you regardless.

And while I've seen some play this game, no one I've watched has explored every square inch of every area of the game like I've been doing, so the only thing I knew about ahead of time here was the fire Grave Warden and like 3 of the Hollows on the way to Gundyr. TFS just ran the most direct route to him. Luckily the area is small so there's little room for big surprises, though I wasn't expecting that invasion.

Also your computer is working fine. I went through the Cemetery of Ash trying to get camera angles as identical to my run through of Untended Graves as possible to make very short (like 0.3 seconds) flashes to the Cemetery of Ash as I was walking through Untended Graves. Just to add emphasis to it being a flashback to the past, or future.
