Uridium 2 Amiga Press Review Version Retro Gameplay (1993)
Uridium 2 is a 1993 science fiction side-scrolling shoot 'em up originally designed by Andrew Braybrook for the Amiga. It is the sequel to Braybrook's earlier Commodore 64 game Uridium.
This is the press review version, NOT the published retail version. Hence, this is earlier, not final code. Sharp eyes might notice differences to the final game?

Uridium 2 retains the same setting and gameplay of the original Uridium, but the presentation is highly improved, thanks to the Amiga's better graphics and sound capabilities. The sprites and background objects are more detailed and more colourful, and the sound includes a souped-up version of the original Uridium theme tune, as well as PCM sampled speech announcing important in-game events.
Gameplay improvements include a simultaneous two-player mode, power-ups left behind by shooting enemies, a radar screen at the bottom of the game screen, and an improved mini-game when the player reaches the dreadnought's reactor core: instead of a simple quick-draw test to disarm the reactor, the player now gets to actually shoot at the reactor core using a drone pilot.
Re-enter your manta in the sequel to one of the fastest 8-bit action games. You are sent out to take out half a dozen enemy battle groups, each consisting of four huge spaceships. Similar to the first Uridium, you face increasing numbers of unfriendly fighter wings and stationary defenses while sweeping over the carriers. The real challenge here is to avoid the many walls on the back of the vessel while you are under attack. After the exterior has been cleaned from most of the enemy presence you take care of the ships' reactor core in a jump-and-run-like sequence. While floating in a non-gravity surrounding, lower the core's shields and then destroy it. The game also gives you a number of extra weapons that can be collected by either flying over pick-ups left from dead enemy wings or by catching them after the power generator has been destroyed.
